Back to top Getting started What do I need to do when my RSP-100 phone arrives? When unpacking your RSP-100 you should read the documentation carefully; the Quick Start Guide explains the steps for setting up and using the
phone. You will be instructed how to insert a SIM and fully charge the battery.
How do I insert a SIM card and battery? To remove the battery, push the release latch upwards and pull the battery out. Insert the SIM card into the socket making sure the notched corner is at the top right and the gold contact area is facing downwards. Re-insertion of the battery is the reverse of removal. When inserted apply downward pressure until you hear the fastening click.
How do I charge the RSP-100?Open the rubber socket cover on the base of the
phone and plug in the connector. Plug the other end into the mains or a USB socket as appropriate. When fully charged the plug is removed from the
phone by squeezing the buttons on either side of the plug and then pulling out; replace the rubber cover.
How long does it take to charge? From empty the RSP-100 will take approximately four hours to charge fully.
I have plugged the charger in and nothing is happening? If the battery is completely flat it may take 10-15 minutes charging before the
phone display turns on to indicate charging.
Back to top Making calls & phonebook Can I use it instead of a mobile phone?Yes, the device can receive calls from other tele
phones. It can also make tele
phone calls using speed dials, the address book or the 'Any number dial' feature. If required however, the device can be restricted to call preset numbers only and/or receive calls only from preset numbers.
How do I make a call?Press a Speed dial and then press the green key to initiate the call. You can also make a call by holding down the Speed Dial key for 3 seconds. The main menu gives access to the
phonebook which can hold 16 additional numbers.
How do I receive a call?Press the green key to receive the call and when finished press the red key to end the call.
Can I see who is calling me?Yes, if the number is not withheld the LCD display will show you the name of the caller if in the
phone book or the number.
How many numbers can the phone hold? The
phone book will hold 20 numbers of which 4 are assigned to the speed dial buttons 1-4 and the other 16 are accessible from the menu.
How do I call a phone number that isn't in the address book?Providing it has been enabled on the individual handset, the 'Any number dial' feature may be selected by holding in the volume control toggle on the left hand side of the device when unlocked.
How do I update the speed dials and phone book entries?Geonovo's AdminLW web based administration platform has specific records for each device and is able to update the
phonebook using 'over the air' commands.
How long does it take to reconfigure the device settings? This depends upon the number of speed dials and configuration settings that need to be updated, but a typical configuration time is 15 - 20 minutes.
Back to top Operation and functionality How do I check the GPS signal?Select 'Check GPS' from the main menu. Obtaining a GPS position is indicated by 'Success' on the screen. If 'Failed' is shown move to an area that has an unhindered 'view' of the north, south, east and west horizons.
Is there a fall detector? No, instead, we have a 'Man down' feature which summons assistance for lone workers when they are unable to manually activate the SOS. It works by the device prompting the user at regular intervals, say hourly, to confirm their well being. If the user does not respond to the prompt (after three retries) the handset sends a man down alert to the ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre) – which would then investigate and send assistance.
How do I setup 'Man Down'?From the main menu select 'Man Down', configure the options for Duration and Interval. The Notification Method can also be set or left at default.
Is there an 'amber alert' option?Yes, we call it 'Pre-alert' and this is typically invoked when the user goes into a structure where GPS coverage may not be available. By holding down the number 4 button, the user can record a voice message which is stored remotely:' I am entering Flat 23 on the fifth floor of Edith Cavell House, I'll be there for about an hour'. If the ARC then receives an SOS, they can retrieve and listen to the voice message which is used in conjunction with the latest location data
How do I make a Pre-alert call?If configured then Speed Dial key 4 will be set-up for Pre-Alert. To activate, press and hold for three seconds.
How do I read a text message? From the main menu select Message and then Inbox. All messages will be displayed with the newest unopened message first. Scroll to a message and select to open. Selecting an open message will give the option to delete it.
How do I raise an SOS?Slide the SOS switch up and a call will immediately be made to the Emergency Response Centre. When the SOS has been dealt with, slide the switch back down.
What if I raise an SOS by mistake? The SOS switch is designed to avoid false alarms by requiring it to be moved rather than just pressed. However, in the event of activating it in error, you should wait until the Emergency Response Centre answers the
phone, then tell them it was a false activation and then slide the switch back down. If you slide the switch back down before the Emergency Response Centre answers they will know an SOS was raised and call you back to make sure all is OK.
Does it vibrate when it's in SOS mode? The RSP-100 vibrates briefly when the SOS switch is operated to provide positive confirmation to the user that SOS has been activated.
How far away from the microphone can the user speak and still be heard? The RSP-100 can pickup normal speech from 3 metres away, outside with minimal background noise.
Is there a speakerphone on the device? No.
Back to top Battery Issues What indication do I get of the battery charge status? The battery status is indicated in several ways: the RSP-100 display shows the battery status as an icon; the AdminLW management page will show the current charge level. When the battery is getting low the
phone will beep three times at three minute intervals to indicate it needs charging and the icon on the display will show an empty battery. If you are on a call when the battery reaches a low state, no warning sound will be heard but the display will flash.
What type of battery does it use?Standard Li-ion 720mAH
What is the battery life?Up to 48 hours normal operation or a talk time of up to 150 minutes. The operating times vary depending on signal strength, operator network configuration and usage. It is advisable to charge it every day to ensure no problems in the event of an emergency.
How long does the battery last?Typically the battery will last 2 – 3 days dependant on usage and frequency of reporting times via GPS. This can be configured to specific customer requirements. As it is a critical safety device, it is good practice to charge it daily.
Does the device warn the ARC if the battery is getting low?The RSP-100 will send in a low battery warning when the remaining charge drops below 10%.
What should I do when there is no display or it just flashes?Battery is completely discharged. Please leave charging and indicator will display after an extended period?
Is there a car charger?Car chargers are provided at an additional cost and can be ordered either from our web page or by phoning our order line.
Back to top GPS & GSM functionality Why does it use SMS for SOS messages but GPRS the rest of the time?GPRS is usually a lower cost communication method and is therefore more cost effective. The device usually only communicates by SMS when an SOS voice call is connected. This is because the GSM network cannot send GPRS data at the same time a voice call is being made.
How frequently does it send a GPS position?Frequencies of 1-9999 minutes may be defined during configuration of the device. In order to ensure optimum battery life a, typical interval would be 10 minutes.
Can this be set differently for 'normal' and SOS modes?Yes, typically positions would be sent more
frequently when in SOS mode, say every two minutes.
Can the device be used as a tracker? The standard configuration of the device is that the GPS location data is used only when an SOS alarm is activated and for historical management information. Optionally, and subject to securing the necessary user agreement, the device may be used as a tracker where its updated position (including altitude, direction and velocity) can be monitored in real-time.
Can transmission of GPS location be turned off?Yes, this can be halted locally by ejecting the battery from the unit or by remote device configuration.
Does it do geofencing?Yes, it can transmit a unique message when a geofence is violated. A maximum of 3 zones can be established using the following values: latitude of centre, longitude of centre, radius for perimeter in meters.
Does AdminLW provide a 'breadcrumb' trail? No, location information will be sent into the AdminLW system however only one position at a time will be shown via Google Maps.
Back to top Miscellaneous Is there a key pad lock?By default the RSP-100 will automatically lock itself after five seconds of inactivity. This option may be turned off through the
phone menu.
What do all the screen icons mean? The Quick Start Guide explains all
frequently used icons and the User Manual covers the rest.
Why is the SOS activated with a switch rather than a button?SOS is activated by a switch rather than a button as this significantly reduces the number of false activations. Button alarms are commonly pressed accidentally when sat on or pressed against.
What is the size and weight of the RSP-100?Size 90 mm X 46 mm X 17.5mm, weight 62.5g including battery
Is the RSP-100 handset waterproof? No, but it is splash proof.
What colours are available?Currently only available in black
Is there a Bluetooth option?No.
Can it be used in places where there are inflammable vapours i.e. - is it 'intrinsically safe'?No, the device has not been designed to operate in these environments.
